The Lacydon by Jean-Louis Sourdeau, 1939

28-28A, quai de Rive Neuve 13007 Marseille
13
Regaining all its glory after a renovation started in 2023, the Lacydon building stands out with its 30s style on the Rive Neuve quay. These facades borrow from the maritime vocabulary with their rounded corners, banded windows and cornices.

Trained at the Regional School of Architecture of Lille then at the Beaux-arts of Paris, Jean Louis Sourdeau obtained his architect's diploma on June 9, 1920. He practiced in Arras until the beginning of the 30s, then moved his office to Marseille. In the second part of his career, he joined forces with his son Jean-Marie (1922-1981) to jointly carry out numerous social housing programs in the PACA region (Lagarde Campaign in Marseille in 1966). His two most emblematic creations in Marseille remain the astonishing Saint Louis church in 1935 and the Building Canebiere in 1952.
