The Concept

Tourism-Marseille.com? despite its small name, the opposite of that of the Marseille Tourist Office, is a personal blog for discovering and exploring the many facets (good or bad) of the Marseille city via an interactive mapactive (on a basis © OpenStreetMap contributors) bringing together thousands of files from the past, present and future of Marseille, classified by categoryThis site aims to memorize the evolutions of this incredible city and approach as much the history of a former slum of refugees as to reveal the famous creeks with crystal clear waters. Because Marseille is thus, both simple and terribly complex, both soft and harsh, bewitching and irritating!

This evolving site, visited by up to 8000 visitors each day, houses files very regularly updated in line with current events, messages and valuable contributions from Internet users and new ones are created as discoveries, explorations and of city life.

Tourisme-Marseille.com is also a blog on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram et LinkedIn, to explore and (re)discover Marseille every day followed by more than 33 cumulative subscribers.

This site is that of Dominique Milherou, a southerner but from the West (between the Pyrenees and the Atlantic), a real addict to his host city, who did not understand given what he discovered there every day, how this city could be so drowned in negative clichés and its immense natural and historical heritage so little known and recognized outside its walls but also sometimes by the people of Marseille themselves. An image that is finally in the process of evolving to the point of having to differentiate it to curb its attractiveness! This site allows you to explore off the beaten track.

So since 2013 Dominique Milherou has been on a quest to pin thousands of places from the past, present and future of Marseille, all on a small map, to explore his city, share and allow everyone to do likewise ! This site is also enriched and sometimes also corrected (thank you!) by the valuable comments and stories of Internet users and certain files are the creations of talented external contributors, historians or history enthusiasts, thanks to them.

But in March 2021 following the fire of OVH servers the site completely disappeared, returning 3 months later thanks to the support of hundreds of donors. We had to start almost from scratch, a large part was lost and a large number of files remain to be updated following the re-establishment of an old database from 2015-2017. Thank you for your understanding if everything is not perfect! Since 2022, advertising has been added to compensate for the €250 monthly server costs generated by the site's very high traffic.

So unearth, snoop, find...and above all get out of your home to discover all these nuggets in the real world! And with the mobile version you can always see what is hiding around you. Also discover the first paper guide signed Dominique Milherou, fruit of his almost ten years of exploration with 111 atypical places to explore.

Good discoveries to all

Contact

Do not hesitate to contact me for any remarks, site tests, suggestions for ideas for sheets, technical bugs or editorial or historical errors (this site is far from being infallible!), information updates, credits or on the use of certain text or visual extracts. Since the site fire in March 2021, many sheets are no longer up to date, thank you for your understanding. If you wish to become a "Sentinel" of the site for a district of Marseille or a type of file in order to keep this site always up to date, contact me too.
