Updating a listing | Statue of Missak Manouchyan

Yesterday President Emmanuel Macron announced the entry into the Pantheon of Missak Manouchian accompanied by Mélinée, his wife, of Armenian origin and resistant like him. A statue of Missak Manouchian signed in 1984 by the Marseilles artist Bernard Brandi is exhibited in the garden bearing his name, overlooking the Old Port. Born on September 1, 1906 in Adıyaman in the Ottoman Empire, he died shot at the age of 37 at the Mont-Valérien fort on February 21, 1944, he was a French poet of Armenian origin, a communist militant (responsible for the Armenian section of the MOI) and a resistant (military commissioner of the FTP-MOI of the Paris region). The statue is punctually flowered during commemorations.
